Save our Seas Card - by Franka Benjaminsen

To make the background of this card you need Hobby Art Watercolour card, a spray with water, a heat tool, large acrylic block ( 6,25 x 8,5 inches) and several colours of Distress Ink.

For this technique, I use Distress Inks because of the brighter colours. In the photo, you’ll which colour I’ve used but feel free to use your own.

Press onto the top 2/3 of your acrylic block using the blue Distress Inks and the remaining 1/3 using the yellow/brown Distress Inks.  Spray with water. The more water you use, the lighter the colours. Spray your Water Colour card also with water. Place the paper onto the acrylic block, turn it upside down and press.

Remove the acrylic block from your paper. Heat the paper with the heat tool until it’s dry.
Every time you do this technique it gives different results 🙂

Trim to 5,25 x 7,25 inch

Draw a very light line with your pencil 1,25 inches from the top of your card. And draw a very light pencil line 1,5 inches from the bottom of your card.
Between these lines, we’re going to lay our Hobby Art Rays Stencil.

I started with DI – Tumbled Glass and sponged the lines very lightly. For the second layer I sponged with Mermaid Lagoon, but be careful !! Do this layer very lightly and don’t fill the whole lines. It must give you the idea of light shining into the water.
Dry with the heat gun before you erase the lines. Do this very carefully !!

Use the Hobby Art Water Stencil to sponge the top of your card. I used Distress Ink – Peacock Feathers.
You can sponge some water in some other places on the card. But be careful not to use it too much !!

This is the finished background 🙂

Now we start stamping. I’ve used the stamp sets Save Our Seas and Coral Reef and I’ve stamped with Versafine Clair – Fallen Leaves. The Fallen Leaves is not as dark as black ink. All the stamps I’ve stamped on the background. The turtle and the biggest Jellyfish I’ve stamped on thinner drawing paper too.
Dry with the heat tool.

The text ‘Save Our Seas” I’ve stamped with Versafine – Onyx Black and embossed with WOW Clear Sparkle embossing glitter (WS15R).
But you can use any clear glitter embossing powder if you wish.
The small fish (Stamp Set Coral Reef) I’ve stamped with Versafine Clair – Morning Mist and embossed with WOW Clear Sparkle embossing glitter (WS15R).

Now we start the colouring part. I’ve coloured all the stamps with Derwent ColorSoft Pencils, but you can use any colour pencils you like.
Some items I’ve coloured directly on the background. On this card, I’ve coloured the turtle and the hat of the bigger jellyfish on thinner drawing paper.

When you finished the colouring you can make accents with a Gelly pen. I’ve used a white and a silver one.
You can draw some air bubbles with the Hobby Art Flourish Script Stencil.

Finally, sponge the edges of your card with Peacock Feathers and the second layer with a little Black Soot.

Cut and paste the turtle and the bigger Jellyfish. I pasted the turtle with foam tape for more depth.
And finally, paste your card onto coloured cardstock.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial and we are curious about your creations.

Thanks so much for popping in.
